Located on a scenic 34-acre campus in the foothills overlooking Tucson, Cottonwood is a clinical and academic partner of the University of Arizona School of Medicine - Department of Psychiatry. We have long valued their collaboration in developing and advancing state-of-the-art whole-person addiction and behavioral care practices. We are proud of our international reputation as an innovative treatment center that has been helping people to transform their lives for over 25 years.
The Cottonwood treatment team is dedicated to the compassionate and sophisticated treatment of addiction to drugs and alcohol, mood disorders, including depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. We are also pioneers in the treatment of trauma, impulse-control difficulties like pathological gambling, work and sex addiction, eating disorders and relational dysfunction and codependency. In a climate of understanding and safety, our highly trained clinicians, many with hard-earned personal experience with recovery from addictions and mood disorders, skillfully address underlying issues that support addictions and mood problems, as well as maladaptive attitudes, perceptions and beliefs that may cause a return to self-destructive behaviors.
All patients who come to Cottonwood receive a thorough medical, psychiatric and psychosocial assessment in their first few days of treatment. We can also provide cognitive, educational and personality testing, as well as eastern-based medical practices like acupuncture, for patients who would benefit from them. Our comprehensive assessment process helps the clinical team to create a personalized treatment plan optimally responsive to each patient’s individual needs.

At Cottonwood, we rely on the latest research on the neurobiology of human development and the neuroscience of addiction and mood disorders to design cutting-edge, patient-responsive treatment programs. Our understanding of the developing brain, and how addiction and mood disorders can affect the brain’s ability to make a content and confident mood, adds to our ability to successfully treat mental health issues in both adolescents and adults.
Our clinical staff is multidisciplinary, highly trained and experienced, and we have invested years in developing Cottonwood’s treatment philosophy of treating the whole person – body, mind, emotions and spirit, and helping our patients in establishing renewed health, a greater sense of wellness, and a spiritually-directed lifestyle.
