It is widely recognized that substance abuse and addictions have a negative impact on the health, and social and economic well-being of women and girls. It is also known that effective partnerships between research and policy groups and non-governmental organizations can contribute to leading-edge research, policies and programs that reduce the harm associated with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and promote women's health and well-being.

CCSA and BCCEWH have pledged to work together in a spirit of cooperation, learning and support to implement practical means of bringing the policy and research fields closer together; sharing data, information, networks and resources; creating and promoting participatory forums for those interested in substance use among women and girls in Canada; supporting and facilitating the exchange of professional staff between CCSA and BCCEWH and their affiliates; and sharing information on issues of mutual interest regarding gender, women, girls and substance use.

The Canadian Executive Council on Addictions (CECA) is a national, non-governmental organization established in April 2002, to influence public policy on substance use. We offer:

a forum in which to develop common positions on substance use issues in Canada
the ability to strengthen the capacity and knowledge of addictions executives at the federal, provincial/ territorial and municipal levels
an environment of collaboration to integrate diverse issues and improve addiction services across Canada
a means of delivering proactive advice to all three levels of government.

CECA is made up of senior executives of substance use agencies in Canada that have a legislated federal or provincial mandate or are recognized provincial authorities. Our founding members include the chief executive officers of the Kaiser Foundation (British Columbia), the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission, the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Ontario), and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse.

The members of CECA include Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, Alberta Health Services - Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission, British Columbia Mental Health and Addiction Services, Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Health and Community Services, Nova Scotia Addiction Prevention and Treatment Services and Saskatchewan Health Mental Health and Addiction Services.
